The wine really makes this cranberry sauce a rich, deep color and oh so tasty.

Mulled Wine Cranberry Sauce

  • 2 cups red wine
  • zest one orange
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 nutmeg pod
  • 8-10 white or green peppercorns
  • 2-3 cloves
  • 12 ounces cranberries, fresh or frozen
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar

In a small saucepan set over medium heat, bring wine to a boil with orange zest and spice. Let boil for about 3-5 minutes, but don’t allow liquid to reduce. Use a small strainer to remove everything but the cinnamon sticks. Add cranberries and sugar and allow mix to thicken and berries to burst, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and pull out the cinnamon sticks. Reserve them for garnish if desired. The sauce can be made a few days ahead of time and kept refrigerated until ready to serve.
